RC – How did you meet James?
James and I met in 2008 when we were working on the same team, doing some causal work for the Victorian Electoral Committee in Camberwell. We got along straight away and we’ve been best friends since that day.
RC – How did James propose?
The proposal was at home one on one, I was always hinting that if he were to propose I didn’t want any bells and whistles no audience just us.
So the evening he proposed we were at home and I was in bed reading and he came to my side of the bed popped the ring out and asked if I’d spend the rest of my life with him to which I replied ‘YES’ and burst into hysterics. I probably started laughing because I realized in that moment that he had just proposed and we were now engaged. I have no idea why I was laughing though it was just the way I reacted. I always imagined I’d burst into ‘the ugly cry’. The following day he took me out for dinner to celebrate, we went to our now favourite restaurant Matteo’s in Fitzroy North and enjoyed a lovely 6 course degustation dinner.
RC – Is there a particular reason as to why you chose your venue?
We chose Ballara Receptions because of a couple of reasons; The staff we met when we went to view the venue were wonderful , we got along with them straight away. They have a chapel and a ballroom to hold the reception at the same place. They have beautiful gardens and a small lake. You can have your photos taken at the same place. Their gardens are beautiful (the weeping willows in their gardens are spectacular).
RC – Your favourite part of the wedding?
The best part of the wedding was the dancefloor, our DJ Glen from Le Grande Style Weddings had the dancefloor packed the whole evening. He did such an amazing job, most of our guests mentioned what a great job he’d done.
RC – How did the dress make you feel?
My dress was amazing it fit like glove, I felt as elegant and as classy as the dress looked.
RC – How was your bridal shopping experience?
My shopping experience was awesome I went in with the dress that I wanted in mind I had already seen it on Pinterest pre-engagement and knew the dress I wanted to get married in.
But when I went into RC Brunswick Lucy suggested I try on 4 other dress styles that she felt would suit me and then try the Sottero and Midgley dress I wanted last.
That was such a great suggestion because I liked the 4 dresses I tried but when I tried the Cassandra dress I knew it was the one, I loved it even more on me than in the pictures I had seen of the dress.

RC – Tips for brides-to-be!
- Plan the wedding of your dreams within your means.
- Do as much research as you can and choose people to assist you that are positive, reliable and honest.
- Include your partner in the planning because at the end of the day the wedding is a celebration of the two of you. When choosing suppliers if you can, meet the people before booking them it gives you an idea of who you will be dealing with on the lead up to the wedding and on the wedding day.
- Plan ahead as much as you can, the good thing about planning ahead is that you likely to be less stressed on the lead up to the wedding if you get everything done in advance.
- It is good to provide reviews to your suppliers after the wedding
