We’re so inspired by the stunning MUSE campaign shoot! Rocking a red lip on your wedding day is sure to make a bold and glamorous statement — think Old Hollywood like Marilyn Monroe. When wearing a saturated colour like red, it’s important to keep the rest of your makeup palette neutral, let the focus be on the lip and stick to soft earth tones on the eyes, romantic, wispy lashes and a warm, radiant glow to your skin.

Ready to go rouge? Just as important as learning how to properly apply red lipstick is finding the right shade, finish and formula. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you achieve a picture-perfect pout and keep it looking flawless all night long.

EXFOLIATE
It’s essential to start with a smooth canvas. Begin by using a gentle lip scrub to remove any rough patches and dry skin.

PRIME
The number one trick to avoid fading and bleeding? Apply a conditioning lip primer on and around the lip to fill in any fine lines and give the perfect base for your lip colour.

DEFINE
Lightly line and fill in your lip with a nude pencil that matches your natural lip colour. This will help to keep the look more modern and less overdrawn.

APPLY
To ensure a kiss-proof pout, choose a matte red shade and apply the colour with a lip brush for ultimate precision. If needed, add a second coat to make sure the colour is even.

PERFECT
Clean up any uneven edges by applying a water resistant concealer around the lip-line with a small, detail brush. This will give extra definition and make the lip colour pop.

SET
Take a tissue and lightly lay over top of the lip. Pick up a bit of translucent powder with a loose brush, tap off the excess and dust over the tissue to set the colour and absorb any excess oils.

HIGHLIGHT
To add that extra wow factor, apply a cream highlighter just above the Cupid’s bow and on the centre of the bottom lip. This is a great trick to fake a fuller pout without adding gloss and risking the chance of your lip colour smudging throughout the night.
