THE FIRST SIGHT
Yehia and I meet online, we wish we had a better story than that but it’s a pretty common way you meet these days. We texted each other for about a week before we decided to go out for dinner. I remember the first time he called me before dinner, his accent took me by surprise (Egyptian). From then on, we knew it was something special. Yehia always reminds me how confident I was when I walked into dinner (I don’t think I was at all; I remember being very nervous).
THE PROPOSAL
Yehia took me to Egypt to meet his family in September 2018, we spent 5 weeks spending time with his family. While we were in Egypt (without me knowing) he got an engagement ring from his mother that had been given to her by her father. The tradition in his culture is that the first-born child gets the ring. Monday morning, 22nd of October comes and I am getting ready for work, Yehia walks in to give me a hug and says, “Will you marry me?” no knee, no flowers, no candles just perfect us being us. My reaction was “Are you really doing this now?” and the answer was yes, he was. The engagement ring is so beautiful, it’s about 50 years old and his mother also gave me another ring that was hers.
THE VENUE
As soon as Yehia proposed the first question was “Where was the wedding going to be, Australia or Egypt?” I knew I wanted the wedding in Egypt and in my mind, I knew the location. Yehia’s Aunties house was the perfect location. We did look at other venues in Egypt but we both knew where we wanted the wedding. It was something about the green grass, flowers that had started to bloom, lighting was beautiful, space was perfect…it ticked all the boxes.
FAVOURITE MOMENT
Walking in and seeing Yehia standing there at the dance floor waiting for me to walk down to him. There was something special to see our families coming together as one, dancing the night away with my new husband and everyone just having an amazing time.
THE DRESS
I had tried on about 5 dresses before I picked “the one”. The sales assistant pointed to a dress another lady was trying on and asked me “What about that dress?” I said “No, I don’t really like it”. I tried on all the dresses I had selected and nothing. My assistant said to me, “Let’s try on that dress I pointed out to you just to see the style on you.” I thought I had nothing to lose so I tried it on and guess what lucky my appointment was at the end of the day because I stayed in the dress for an hour. I loved it; it just grew on me every second I was in it. I wanted a dress that was more of an evening dress, with glamour, it made me feel like a movie star.
FINDING THE ONE
From the start the lady that helped me was very honest about the dresses I tried on. I feel like she knew what would suit my body but let me go through my process of trying on everything I liked so I could see how it looked on me. When I found the dress, the Raffaele Ciuca assistant knew I needed time in it and didn’t rush me at all, it was an amazing experience.
ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES
My tip is that you spend 6 – 12 months or longer planning that most amazing day of your life, make sure you enjoy every moment as it goes so fast. You pick out the menu and spent so much time on making sure the menu is perfect for your guests then you don’t eat…Make sure you eat!
