Making their way to Adelaide with humble beginnings, Colette started the business with one machinist, some patterns and rolls of fabric spread across the floor. She was the designer, Olivier the cutter. For five years, they travelled the country visiting every township that had a drapery or fashion store until agents offered to promote their range in every capital city and regional centre of Australia. As Caleche flourished and their four children grew up, they each in turn joined the family business. Eventually these hand-crafted gowns from the Caleche workrooms in Norwood were being sold in selected stores Australia-wide as well as in boutiques across France and Italy. Sons Herve and Eric now carry on the business into the second generation, with Herves’ wife Elizabeth joining in 1996.
