“Maria at Armadale was my stylist and she was fantastic. I’m sure that she sees many brides in her job every day but she was very sincere and made me feel special. I wasn’t sure at the time what style of dress I was after and kept an open mind. I chose a few dresses to try and Maria said that she knew just the dress for me.”
RC – How did you and your husband meet?
My husband and I are both Pilots for a major Australian airline. Needless to say that we both met at work and were both attracted to one another however, it was a mutual friend that got us together! At the time I lived in South Australia and Tim lived in Queensland. Tim offered to travel to South Australia and take me out to dinner and our plans evolved from there to a long weekend spent in the McClaren Vale at a beautiful BnB.
RC – The proposal?
Exactly a year later we returned to the BnB where we shared our first date to celebrate. We spent the weekend touring vineyards, sampling wine, eating great food and enjoying each others company. On the morning of our anniversary we were getting ready to go out for lunch and Tim asked for me to join him on the couch, where he reminded me we had shared our first kiss. He then proceeded to get down on the floor on bended knee, reached under the couch for the ring box and tearfully asked if I would marry him. Through my own tears I first asked if he was serious and then happily accepted. We then celebrated our engagement over the most beautiful degustation at D’arry’s Verandah Restaurant.
RC- Is there a particular reason as to why you chose your venue?
With my family in Adelaide and Tim’s in Brisbane we thought that to have our wedding at one or the other location would be disadvantaging a family. So we decided that a destination Wedding would mean everyone could travel and make a holiday out of it. We chose Port Douglas as it was an easy one flight direct from Adelaide or Brisbane to Cairns with Jetstar. We had holidayed in far north Queensland before and loved the climate and relaxed atmosphere. It was in a Wedding magazine that I saw the Sugar Wharf and thought that it would make the most perfect venue for our Wedding reception. The Sugar Wharf is a heritage listed building over the ocean at Port Douglas. Whilst the building itself is just four walls and a ceiling it gave us great flexibility to use our creativity and imagination for styling. We engaged Port Douglas Weddings and Hire who were fabulous at catering for our needs and offering wonderful ideas. We were blown away by their service.
RC – Your favourite part of the wedding?
Having all of our friends and family in the same place for more than one day and seeing them all enjoying themselves! We planned a few activities for our time there including dinners, BBQs and a Great Barrier reef cruise and were so fortunate to have wonderful weather for all of our events.
RC – How did the dress make you feel?
This dress was made for me! I felt amazing! I wanted a backless dress that showed my silhouette and made me feel feminine and glamorous. I absolutely adore it. My long veil looked beautiful in the photographs.
RC – How was your bridal shopping experience at RC?
Maria at Armadale was my stylist and she was fantastic. I’m sure that she sees many brides in her job every day but she was very sincere and made me feel special. I wasn’t sure at the time what style of dress I was after and kept an open mind. I chose a few dresses to try and Maria said that she knew just the dress for me. This Pronovias dress that Maria picked was the first I tried on and the dress that I chose. Maria also helped me select the right veil and accompanying head piece and jewellery. It was such a smooth and pleasant experience.
